Mit der Einführung des Begriffs Petromusicality untersucht und thematisierte der Beitrag von Paula Bracker, Karl Salzmann und Samo Zeichen im Rahmend der Langen Nacht der Forschung 2024 die Materialität der Schallplatte und nutzt den Plattenspieler und das Medium Schallplatte als künstlerisches Forschungsgerät. 
In der Lecture-Sound-Performance wurde die Aneignung und Verwendung von (Kunststoff-)Materialien hinterfragt. Zu diesem Zweck wurden die beiden künstlerischen Forschungsprojekte Apophenia (musique plastique) [Bracker/Zeichen] und To Start from Scratch [Salzmann] verbunden: In diesen Projekten wurden ('entsorgte') Materialien geschaffen, geschreddert, neu/deformiert und/oder auf Vinylschallplatten geklebt. Mittels eines Plattenspielers hörbar gemacht, wurden sie so zu klingenden Objekten mit neu erzeugten Klängen und Geräuschen. Ausgehend von der Erkenntnis, dass das Geräusch einer Schallplatte viel mehr Informationen enthält und es sich nicht nur um eine Scheibe aus Polyvinylchlorid handelt, wurden politische und ethische Aspekte ihrer Produktion, der globalen Wertschöpfungsketten sowie die Wechselbeziehung zu uns als (Musik-)Konsument:innen kritisch beleuchtet.

As part of the Lange Nacht der Forschung, the ÆSR Sound Projection Lab was presenting sound sculptures in the foyer of the Future Art Lab at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw). These were projected using an IKO loudspeaker system, which made it possible to emit sounds in all directions of the architectural space. For this purpose, pieces were developed by students of the Course of Electroacoustic and Experimental Music (ELAK) and cooperation partners of the ÆSR-Lab, which were played throughout the evening.

A festive banquet with band salad & turntable - the Phonogrammarchiv celebrated its 125th birthday as part of the Long Night of Research & invited everyone to the table. Under what conditions were recordings made in the past & today? How is knowledge production connected to the development of audiovisual technology? And how do we deal with the hunger of ethnographic research? In addition to the exhibition of sound carriers and sound samples, the ÆSR Digitization & Restauration Lab was represented with a microscope station, where various cutting images and sound grooves were illustrated.
